Standards

The standards that specify the vitrified clay pipes and fittings specifications and their listing methods are as follows:

1. Saudi Arabian Standard SASO 235/236:

The Saudi Arabian standards SASO 235/236 (GSO EN 295-1:2008) specify the tests to be applied to the vitrified clay pipes which are used for the disposal of sewage water under the influence of gravity in order to ensure the compliance of VCP products.

2. British Standard EN 295-2013

The series of EN 295 (1-7) specify the requirements for Vitrified clay pipe systems for drains and sewers.

  • BS EN 295-1:2013: Requirements for pipes, fittings and joints
  • BS EN 295-2:2013: Evaluation of conformity and sampling.
  • BS EN 295-3:2013: Specify the test methods that are applied to test the pipes and fittings.
  • BS EN 295-4:2013: Requirements for adaptors, connectors and flexible couplings.
  • BS EN 295-5:2013: Requirements for perforated pipes and fittings.
  • BS EN 295-6:2013: Requirements for components of manholes and inspection chambers.
  • BS EN 295-7:2013: Requirements for pipes and joints for pipe jacking

Chemical Properties

CPC Vitrified Clay Pipes and Fittings are immune to attack by all alkalis or acids contained in waste water, ground water and in the earth which is determined in SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 2.15).

Length

The length of CPC Vitrified Clay Pipes will not be less than 1% or more than 4 % than its nominal length which is determined in SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 2.3)

Squareness of Ends

The deviation from Squareness of CPC Vitrified Clay Pipes measured at the pipes shall not be greater than 6.0 mm up and including DN 300.
Greater than DN 300, the deviation shall not be exceed 2% of relevant nominal diameter which is determined in SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 2.4)

Deviation from Straightness

The maximum permissible deviation from straightness CPC Vitrified Clay Pipes barrel of the pipe shall measure to the nearest millimeter in mm and will not be greater than the values given in below table # 03 which is determined in SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 2.5)

The most important properties of CPC Vitrified Clay Pipes & fittings which might be required for calculating purposes are listed in the following

Minimum Bore

The minimum permissible bore size of CPC Vitrified Clay Pipes is not less than 2.5 % less than the nominal size which is determined in SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 2.2, Table-1)

Crushing Strength (FN)

The crushing strength (FN) of CPC Vitrified Clay Pipes will not be less than the values given in below table # 04 which is determined in SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 2.9)

Hydraulic Roughness

The degree of roughness has a decisive influence on the hydraulic behavior. Natural roughness K values varied
between:
K = 0.02 mm for straight pipe lines
K = 0.15 mm for pipe lines with close succession of branches.
The CPC Vitrified Clay Pipes with internal glazing shall meet these requirements which is determined in SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 2.16)

Abrasion Resistance

The abrasion resistance of pipe depends on the strength of the pipe material, the smoothness of its internal surface and the wall thickness.
CPC paid special attention to these factors in the manufacture of Vitrified Clay Pipes which ensures a very high resistance to abrasion which is determined in SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 2.17)

Ring Bending Tensile Strength

The pipelines are exposed only to an insignificant internal pressure since operating as gravity lines.
They do have to withstand loads arising from backfilling or surcharge and traffic loads. This results in bending moments in the pipe wall and is known as “ring bending tensile strength”. The ring bending tensile strength can be calculated from the ultimate crushing load.
CPC Vitrified Clay Pipe lines ensures significant Ring Bending Tensile strength which is determined in SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 2.10)

Impermeability to Water

The impermeability to water is tested on each CPC vitrified clay pipes and fittings according to the required standards. The permissible water addition during the test period of 15 minutes is 0.07 liters/m². The EN295-1 (Clause 2.14) call for vitrified clay pipes and fittings to withstand an internal pressure of 0.5 bar without any leakage. Water Tightness of Joints

The CPC vitrified clay pipes and fittings are tested for joint assemblies under pressure 0.5 bar according to the required standards without any leakage from joints. CPC Vitrified Clay Pipe and fittings are guaranteed to withstand an internal and external pressure without any leakage which is determined in SASO  35/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 3.2)

Angular Deflection

The CPC vitrified clay pipes and fittings are tested for angular deflection under pressure 0.5 bar according to the required standards without any leakage from joints.
CPC Vitrified Clay Pipe and fittings are guaranteed to withstand the required deflection as given in table # 05 without any leakage which is determined in SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 3.3)

Joint assemblies on vitrified Clay pipes and fittings:
All CPC Clay pipes and fittings are supplied with built-in flexible joints. These joints will provide a completely tight sealing and are specifically designed to comply with the same requirements as of SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 3.1.1/3.1.2).
The (L) joints system as well as the (K) system are guaranteed to comply to all requirements with regard to chemical resistance on the pH range 2 to 12), ageing, flexibility and physical strength.

“L” – Joint assembly (The socket side sealing only): (Jointing System “F”)

All CPC Clay pipes and fittings up to nominal diameter (DN) 150 are supplied with a sealing element (L-Ring) as per requirements of SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 3.1.1) with accordance of EN 681.1.
The L-Ring is flatted into the socket and fixed with a specially designed resin. The jointless spigot has just to be pushed into the socket after applying some of the special lubricant.

“K” – Joint assembly (The socket & spigot side sealing): (Jointing System “C”)

All CPC Clay pipes and fittings nominal diameter (DN) of 200 and above are supplied with a sealing element made of polyurethane which are casted inside the socket and at spigot side as per requirements of SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 3.1.2).
The spigot side pushed into the socket after applying some lubricant and makes completely tight joint.

Logo Marking

All CPC Clay pipes and fittings are marked around the socket with the standard Logo marking as per requirements of SASO 235/236 & BS EN 295-1 (Clause 6.0).
